An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Associate / Special Counsel to join our Labour, Employment & Workplace Safety practice. You will be working on both advice, transactional and litigation matters across the scope of employment and safety matters.


What does the role involve?


On a day to day basis you will be involved in:

  • Representing employers in employment-related disputes such as unfair dismissal, discrimination, and general protection claims
  • Negotiating, drafting and providing advice on employment related documents including, contracts of employment, executive employment arrangements, service agreements and workplace policies
  • Advising on compliance with employment laws and strategies for achieving desired client outcomes
  • Litigating matters in the State and Federal Courts, Tribunals and Commissions and utilising complaint handling and alternative dispute resolution techniques, such as mediation and conciliation
  • Developing and delivering internal and external training programs on a range of employment matters
  • Participating in business development and client relationship activities
  • Develop the capacity of colleagues to deliver high quality legal advice through on the job training and supervision, team meetings and matter de-brief
  • Contribute to the firm's learning and development program in area of specialty
  • Contribute knowledge and learning resources, including precedents
  • Manage finances including assisting with estimates and preparation of invoices; collection of fees as directed.


You will be working with the Partners of the team. The work is complex and challenging, and you will often be required to turn around tasks quickly. However, you will also be well supported and given opportunities to grow and further develop your skills.

As the successful candidate, you will have demonstrated experience in a broad range of employment related matters from both a front end and litigious perspective. You will have demonstrated expertise in helping clients to find practical solutions to legal issues, strong experience indrivingbusiness development activityand have played akey role in supervising and mentoring junior lawyers.


The successful applicant will ideally have 7+ years PQE experience at a well-regarded firm in their employment and safety team, have exceptional technical abilities and be commercially minded.


You should be practical and proactive in your approach, possess strong problem solving skills and be willing to expand your skills. A high level of client service is expected as are excellent organisation, written and oral communication skills.
