About The Role

We’re seeking a highly experienced Senior Patternmaker to lead the creation, maintenance, and integrity of uniform patterns for the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

You will be responsible for managing the end-to-end patternmaking process using Gerber (v12+), ensuring garments meet strict specification, fit, and compliance requirements. Your role is critical to the delivery of high-quality, well-fitted uniform garments for Defence personnel.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Own the patternmaking process, including pattern creation, grading, adjustments, and marker checks using Gerber v12+.
  • Audit and maintain baseline patterns, ensuring accuracy and alignment with garment specifications and size charts.
  • Participate in garment fittings to ensure accurate fit, pattern adjustments, and product compliance.
  • Create and manage patterns, tech packs, and associated documentation, ensuring version control and critical path adherence.
  • Liaise with sample makers and suppliers to ensure patterns are accurate and manufacturing-ready.
  • Review and comment on samples for quality, construction, and adherence to pattern specs.
  • Liaise with Gerber for upgrades and technical support; oversee corrections to factory-generated patterns.
  • Support product development with accurate fabric yields and fit advice when requested.
  • Contribute to product compliance processes, including documentation and testing requirements.
  • Maintain WIP tracking, ensuring timelines and development milestones are met.

What We’re Looking For

You are a technical expert in garment construction and pattern development, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to precision. You thrive in structured environments and bring a solutions-focused mindset to fitting challenges and supplier collaboration.

You Will Ideally Have

  • Degree or tertiary education in Apparel Design, Patternmaking, Product Development, or Garment Manufacturing/Construction.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in patternmaking, grading, garment fitting, and spec development.
  • Expertise in Gerber Patternmaking systems (v12+ essential).
  • Experience with offshore suppliers and interpreting factory-made patterns.
  • Familiarity with EIA:632 and/or ISO 9001 (desirable).
  • Experience in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems (desirable).
