Crew Leader – Reduction Line 3 Operations

We are looking for experienced Operational Crew Leaders to work alongside other leaders and lead our teams and improve our process, in on our Smelter Reduction Lines- the heart of what we do!
The Reduction Line 3 Operational Crew Leader takes accountability for assisting the direction of the team, aligning with the Superintendent in the direction of the larger output team, providing coaching and feedback to crew members, and leading the crew to deliver specific quality and quantity of output in a safe, agile and effective manner.
The team members operate the equipment within the reduction lines to tend to operational cells as part of the aluminium production process. It is an expectation to create a culture within the Crew which is aligned to the specific business objectives, and to display behaviors consistent with structured problem- solving and operational excellence.

We are looking for someone who can lead large, complex teams in a busy environment, who has a strong safety focus with demonstrated leadership experience.

Boyne Smelters Limited (BSL)
Opened in 1982, Boyne Smelters Limited is Australia’s second largest aluminium smelter with a 1,000-person strong workforce. Located approximately 20 kilometres south east of Gladstone at Boyne Island on the Central Queensland coast, BSL produces around 500,000 tonnes of aluminium per annum.
Activities at BSL include manufacturing carbon anodes in the carbon plant, aluminium production (smelting) in reduction lines, and casting of molten material into aluminium products ready to ship. The smelter is connected via a conveyor belt to the Queensland Alumina Limited refinery for the supply of alumina.
Along with Yarwun Operations and Queensland Alumina Limited, BSL supports the local community in a wide range of initiatives through Here for Gladstone

What You’ll Bring

Reporting to the Reduction Line 3 Operational Superintendent, you will bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Experience as a crew leader or in a leadership role within a production team
- Be an inspiring role model to a team of operators and coach for positive behaviors, practices and processes, whilst providing leadership, development and support
- Demonstrated people and engagement building skills, well-developed problem-solving skills and the ability to provide innovative solutions
- Excellent communication skills via all mediums with the ability to negotiate positive outcomes across multiple stakeholders
- Deliver Performance 6 reviews with team members to ensure targets and goals are consistently being delivered against specific business objectives
- Build and maintain relationships with multiple stakeholders to align on operational plans and strategies
- Deliver on operational excellence by embracing the SPS Practices and understand the customer driven value chain
- Conduct required audits and inspections to a high standard, for the purpose of reinforcing a strong safe culture and systems
- Deliver operational excellence by identifying and implementing improvement initiative
- Developing other leaders and other required capability within the team
- Sound level of numeracy, literacy and computing skill
- Proficiency in SAP would be beneficial but not essential
