We have an exciting opportunity for an entry level, junior legal assistant to join our Sydney Patent practice to begin your career as a Patent Assistant. Your role is part of a small, collaborative team providing assistance to Patent Attorneys in a secretarial/administration capacity to ensure the smooth running of the Patent Attorney’s practice. This role is a 12 month fixed term contract.
About the role
As a junior legal assistant, you work closely with an experienced patent assistant for guidance, mentoring and on the job training to build your skills.
Key responsibilities you have or will learn:
- Assist with document preparation and formatting documents accurately.
- Respond to client and general emails.
- As you become familiar with each of the Patent Attorney’s files, assist with the monitoring of the file deadlines daily and bring to the Patent Attorney’s attention, critical matters relating to their client files.
- File management including client follow up, opening and closing files and matters.
- Take telephone messages for the Patent Attorney.
- Create, draft and amend legal documents.
- Maintain diary systems for the Patent Attorney and booking meetings.
- Process invoices electronically using our invoicing system.
- Make travel arrangements and general executive support.
- Provide exceptional client service internally and externally.
- Assist with general office and administration duties as and when required.
About You
Ideally you have recently completed a Certificate in Business Administration or equivalent studies at a business college or TAFE and/or have some relevant experience.
- Administrative skills with an eye for detail.
- Excellent time management and organisation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs.
- Professional telephone manner.
- Are eager to develop and learn new skills.
- Enjoy taking on responsibility.
- Enjoy working in a team environment. Are collaborative and proactive in assisting others in the team
