Your role at St John of God Geelong Hospital

We are currently seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Enrolled Nurses and Registered Nurses to join our

Day Surgery Unit on casual basis. The unit operates Monday to Friday between 6:30 AM and 9:00 PM, with staggered shifts scheduled across these hours to support operational needs.

Our Day Surgery Unit features 25 bays and on average sees around 80 cases per day , providing a fast-paced and dynamic environment. We are looking for nurses who are adaptable, team-oriented, and committed to delivering high-quality patient care.

Previous experience in day surgery is preferred, and exposure to paediatric patients or cath-lab nursing will be highly regarded. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a supportive and professional team, making a difference in patients’ lives every day.

As a Registered/Enrolled Nurse you’ll cater to the pre & post operative journey of our surgical patients, with exposure to a range of specialities including General Surgery, Urology, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Dental, Plastics, ENT (involving a large number of Paediatrics) and Vascular. In addition, our Day Surgery Unit also accommodates pre & post-operative Cardiac Cath Lab patients, largely focusing on diagnostic angiograms.

The Position

  • Assesses plans, delivers and evaluates patient care, seeking support from senior staff as required.
  • Promotes and contributes to effective communication, facilitating teamwork and cooperation within the department and within the hospital.
  • Provides patient education and acts as a resource where appropriate.
  • Supports and supervises staff and students as required, including orientating and precepting staff.
  • Contributes to the achievement of Hospital and Clinical Services operational objectives.
  • Participate in patient assessments, including mental health, risk assessment and management, history taking and developing comprehensive nursing care plans. Ensuring risks are documented and appropriate interventions, referrals are facilitated.
  • Administer medication within scope of the Enrolled Nurse classification and in accordance with statutory and organisational guidelines under the direct or indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse.
  • Advise and educate patients regarding treatment and recovery in relevant specialty.

You will have a registration with Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse and demonstrate a minimum of 2 years clinical experience in a relevant specialty. You will demonstrate a commitment to quality patient care and satisfaction, along with well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills.

To succeed you will have an ability to work effectively and harmoniously within the multi-disciplinary health care team, with a commitment to ongoing education and professional development.

The Benefits:

  • Registered Nurse hourly rate: $42.94 to $60.65 (casual loading included), plus 11.5% superannuation
  • Enrolled Nurse hourly rate: $40.69 to $45.24 per hour (casual loading included), plus 11.5% superannuation
