Responsibilities

Reporting to the Engineering & Design Service Line Director, you will be responsible for leading activities in Tailings and Mine Waste Engineering, driving project excellence, client satisfaction and sustainable business performance. This is a pivotal leadership role with broad responsibilities across project delivery, financial performance, team development and health and safety. Key responsibilities include:


• Growing and strengthening the team through strategic recruitment and the continued development of our high-performing national practice.

• Inspiring and guiding regional team leaders and senior professionals across multiple states, fostering collaboration and alignment.

• Managing group financial performance through resource management with the Engineering & Design group administration team, team leaders and other technical discipline managers within the Engineering & Design service line.

• Overseeing the development of high-quality technical outputs, ensuring reports and deliverables meet SLR’s standards and client expectations, on time and within budgets.

• Developing, facilitating and enhancing relationships between our internal and external clients.

• Contributing to winning work by identifying and converting opportunities and drawing on your existing client relationships.

• Providing advice and assistance to internal and external clients, team members and Project Manager's on projects regarding best principles and practices

• Leading and managing your own projects, applying your deep technical knowledge and project management capability to deliver meaningful outcomes.



Experience

Our ideal candidate will have 10+ years’ experience, including experience within a consultancy group, as well as:


• A minimum of 10 years of specialisation and demonstrated experience in tailings engineering in a consulting role, with tertiary qualifications in Geotechnical / Civil / Mining Engineering.

• Experience managing teams of consultants across different geographies and project experience across multiple states.

• Ability to plan and deliver geotechnical site investigations for tailings projects with demonstrated experience in the interpretation of field and laboratory testing of tailings, soils and rock, and slope stability assessments.

• In-depth understanding of local and global tailings standards and guidelines, e.g. ANCOLD, ICOLD, GISTM and CDA.

• Excellent communication skills and technical report writing.

• Demonstrated experience mentoring and developing junior staff.

• Demonstrated experience managing large multidisciplinary projects.

• Past contribution to the development of the regional business plan which includes assessing business risk, growth opportunities and resourcing requirements.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivated and ability to work effectively within a team.

• A strong track record in building, nurturing and maintaining ongoing client relationships.

• The ability to travel interstate to engage with the team face-to-face.
