We are actively looking for a Coastal Engineer to join our Sydney or Brisbane office. As part of the Coastal Group, the Coastal Engineer will assist with the planning and design for Urban Waterfront, Coastal Management and Coastal Structures projects, including marinas, marine terminals, urban waterfront developments and cruise ship facilities, living shorelines and coastal restoration, dredging, coastal hazard assessments, shore protection structures, and beach nourishment.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Prepare or contribute to feasibility investigations, environmental impact studies, coastal hazard assessments, infrastructure condition assessments and engineering designs
  • Support planning and design for maritime, waterfront and coastal structures, marinas, marine and cruise terminals, living shoreline and coastal restoration projects, dredging, coastal protection structures, reclamation and beach nourishment
  • Collect and/or analyse coastal data, survey data, geotechnical investigations, engineering drawings, aerial photography and reviewing reports to support project work
  • Undertake calculations or modelling of coastal processes and sediment transport to support engineering or environmental assessments, including wave overtopping and armour stability
  • Assist with preparation of engineering planning, design and technical reports, and development of basis of design, technical specifications, plans, bill of quantities and schedules
  • Prepares application documentation for development and environmental permits
  • Assists senior engineers or scientists with site inspections, collect and/or analyse coastal data, survey data, geotechnical investigations, engineering drawings, aerial photography and reviewing reports to support project work
  • Assist in research to support opportunities and projects delivery
  • Assists with fieldwork, such as instrument handling and deployment
  • Collaborates with other team members
  • Participate in project related meetings and workshops, or attends conferences or seminars for professional development

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related engineering field
  • 2+ years of experience as a coastal engineer
  • AutoCAD, Civil3D and/or GIS (QGIS or ArcGIS) proficiency is desirable
  • Hydrodynamic (MIKE21 or Delft3D) and wave (MIKE21 or SWAN) modelling experience is a strong plus
  • Experience with Python is also highly desirable
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
  • Availability and willingness to travel
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Working Conditions

Sedentary for prolonged period of time, interact with clients, and travel occasionally.
