Our Opportunity
Work Location: Christmas Creek - Fortescue’s Christmas Creek mine is located on the traditional lands of the Nyiyaparli people.
Roster: 7D/7N/7R (starting on 8/6 during commissioning phase)
Reporting to the Superintendent Operations, This role leads a team of operators and technicians, driving operational excellence through disciplined shift execution, technical oversight, and active mentoring. Working closely with Maintenance, Process Engineering, HSEQ, and Production Planning teams, the Supervisor ensures the achievement of production targets for green iron while fostering a culture aligned with Fortescue’s values of safety, integrity, empowerment, and stretch targets.
This role will involve the daily operations of the plant, commencing with construction and commissioning, then transitioning through to stable operations. Discrete plant areas include Beneficiation, Agglomeration, Reduction, Smelting and Product Packaging.
Understanding and familiarity of primary process systems is expected, including Beneficiation and Agglomeration. Particular to this role is also a knowledge and demonstrated ability to operate high temperature reduction systems, gas treatment systems, Smelting and hot metal handling systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Safe operation of the Process Plant through effective leadership of Operations personnel
- Strong focus on safety, with ability to drive a positive culture of behaviour
- Ability to oversee and maintain appropriate plant inventories (consumables, resupply items)
- Commissioning role to ensure equipment is brought online safely and effectively
- Strong ability to liaise with other departments (maintenance, electrical, process) to maintain plant status.
Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrated prior learning in relevant fields (industry equivalent qualifications or similar)
- Strong background in Process Plant operation, inclusive of commissioning through to stable operation
- Oil/gas type industry knowledge with respect to gas production, usage and its application in reduction furnace technologies.
- Minimum 5 years of operational experience in steelmaking, foundry, or metallurgical processing environments.
- Proven supervisory experience in heavy industry or mining, preferably in a shift-based continuous production setting.
- Strong technical knowledge of EAF operations, molten metal handling, and downstream screening or granulation systems.
- Proficiency in SAP PM or PP modules, production tracking software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid Schedule 26 Statutory Supervisor certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe).
- High-risk work licenses (e.g., forklift, overhead crane, gas test, confined space, working at heights) are desirable.
