The Role:

This is a part time role working three days a week reporting to the Design Manager. The Technical Draftsperson plays a vital role in maintaining and developing SMCT's technical drawing records to support infrastructure planning, development, and operational needs. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and consistency of CAD documentation across all SMCT sites, including built form, services, and interment products. The Draftsperson will work closely with internal stakeholders and external consultants to deliver high-quality drafting outputs, and manage outsourced drafting services. With a strong focus on standards, compliance, and collaboration, the role contributes to the effective delivery of SMCT projects and the ongoing improvement of drafting practices and systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update master CAD files, drawing registers, and as-built documentation across all SMCT sites.
  • Prepare and update area maps to support internal teams, particularly Sales and Customer Services.
  • Develop and enforce SMCT CAD drafting standards, ensuring consistency and quality across all drawings.
  • Assist with concept design preparation, including yield studies and other ad-hoc drafting tasks.
  • Procure and manage external drafting resources, including scope development, tender evaluation, and contract oversight.
  • Ensure external drafting work meets required quality, timeline, and cost expectations.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams and external authorities to support planning and project outcomes.
  • Adhere to SMCT policies and safety procedures, supporting a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.

About You:

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage competing priorities effectively
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal, skills.
  • Self-organised with attention to detail.
  • Certificate IV or higher tertiary qualification in drafting and/or design (building, engineering or surveying).
  • Previous CAD experience is a must. Strong computer literacy with advanced Autodesk Autocad skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Autocad standards, layers, x-refs, etc. Advanced understanding of global positioning surveying standards, 3D contour and TIN files.
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs and strong financial and project management skills.
  • Full Australian driver's license.
