About the Role
As our NSW Facilities & Operations Lead, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining and elevating the physical environment of our spaces across New South Wales. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, you’ll be responsible for ensuring our locations are not only safe and functional but also reflect the high standards of experience and community The Commons is known for. This is a hands-on, strategic role ideal for someone with a passion for operational excellence, an eye for detail, and a proactive mindset. You'll lead the delivery of facilities management programs, oversee vendor and contractor relationships, ensure WHS compliance, and implement continuous improvements across all sites. You'll also act as a mentor and key support for our Community Teams, helping to upskill and guide them in day-to-day facilities troubleshooting and upkeep. About You
- 5+ years’ experience in facilities, property, or operational management across multiple sites
- Experience leading maintenance programs, managing vendor relationships, and negotiating service contracts
- Strong knowledge of WHS compliance and safety standards
- Excellent time management and problem-solving skills
- A hands-on attitude with a desire to improve systems and processes
- A natural mentor with the ability to guide and train others
- Thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment
The main duties of the role include but are not limited to the below:
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Facilities Management
- Deliver The Commons’ NSW facilities operations strategy in alignment with company goals
- Oversee routine building inspections, maintenance schedules, and preventative programs
- Lead resolution of complex maintenance and critical repair issues
- Manage vendor and contractor relationships, ensuring SLA and KPI performance
- Negotiate contracts and manage service agreements alongside the Operations Manager
- Plan and oversee capital works, renovations, and new site development
- Improve and maintain internal cleaning and maintenance protocols
- Audit cleaning standards and implement corrective actions
- Oversee procurement, stock control, and cost optimisation
- Liaise with IT and other departments to support operational needs
Leadership & Support
- Mentor junior staff and support Community Teams in troubleshooting maintenance issues
- Deliver training to enhance basic facilities knowledge among team members
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure full compliance with WHS regulations across all NSW locations
- Conduct risk assessments, lead incident investigations, and implement corrective actions
- Promote a safety-first culture across all sites
Member Experience
- Ensure high standards of safety, cleanliness, and functionality are maintained
- Collaborate with Community Teams to identify and resolve facilities concerns
- Implement changes based on member feedback to improve day-to-day experience
