Weekly in-person volunteer role to manage and facilitate a weekly support group.
Dads in Distress (DIDs) is a front line community based program operated by national suicide prevention charity, Parents Beyond Breakup. DIDs is a peer support program, design, operated and managed by peers - in this case, separated dads. Weekly DIDs groups operate to provide casual drop in support for local dads who are separated and doing it tough. In providing this support, DIDs prevents many hundreds of suicide across Australia each year.
Each LOCAL group that DIDs operates across Australia prevents 3-8 local suicides each year.
Responsibilities
- attend meeting location each week for two hours; typically evening or weekend
- open location and set our meeting chairs
- facilitate the meeting - full training is provided
Qualifications
- since this is peer support, you must be a peer (i.e. separated dad)
- no formal qualifications required as full training is provided
