About The Organisation

Our client is a Registered Native Title Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC) and not-for-profit organsisation for the Traditional Owners in the Martu region which holds and manages Native Title rights and interests on behalf of Martu Traditional Owners.

The Role

The General Manager is a key leadership position responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and supporting the effective governance of the Corporation. This includes oversight of staff, strategic coordination of services, reporting, and compliance, and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders across sectors.

Reporting directly to the Board of Martu Directors, the General Manager will be the first point of contact for external organisations, government, and the community. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference for Martu Traditional Owners by supporting cultural, social, and economic outcomes.

  • Leadership & Operational Management
  • Oversee, manage, and support a small, committed team
  • Ensure the day-to-day operations run efficiently and in line with strategic objectives.
  • Serve as the key liaison between staff, the Board of Directors, and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage systems, policies, and procedures to support operational growth.
  • Respond to community needs and opportunities for business development and social impact.
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors, supporting good governance and transparent communication.
  • Prepare agendas, meeting papers, and record minutes for Board and community meetings.
  • Action Board decisions and maintain effective communication between the Board and staff.
  • Coordinate board development programs and ensure Directors are well supported in their roles.
  • Strategic & Project Leadership
  • Assist with strategic planning and implementation of the organisation's vision.
  • Develop and manage programs, services and partnerships aligned with community priorities.
  • Oversee project delivery and grant-funded initiatives to ensure impact and accountability.
  • Provide leadership on new initiatives, including business enterprises and economic opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with the Corporations Act (CATSI Act).
  • Maintain reporting requirements for ORIC and other regulatory bodies.
  • Prepare reports, grant applications, submissions, and other communications as required.
  • Act as the first point of contact for external organisations including mining companies, government departments, anthropologists, archaeologists, and not-for-profits.
  • Represent the organisation at external meetings, events, and negotiations.
  • Foster strong community relationships and coordinate consultations with Martu members.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships that benefit Martu people and organisation’s objectives.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Human Resources, Community Development, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in an operational leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing teams, operations, and strategic projects.
  • Previous experience working with Aboriginal organisations, PBCs or community-led initiatives is highly desirable.
  • Experience in governance support, compliance reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Grant writing or funding application experience is desirable.
