Procurement Officer - Local Government

Are you a detail-oriented procurement professional ready to take the next step in your career? We're looking for an experienced and customer-focused Procurement Officer to join a dynamic team in the public sector and help deliver a high standard of service across the organisation.


About the Role

This role plays a key part in ensuring effective procurement and contract management practices across a local government organisation. Reporting to the Coordinator of Procurement and Contracts, you will provide expert guidance to internal stakeholders, assist in developing tenders and quotations, and help improve procurement systems and processes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support and guide the preparation of tenders, RFQs, and contracts in compliance with relevant legislation and internal policy.
  • In collaboration with the Coordinator Procurement and Contracts, support and facilitate the development of tender and quotation requests, as well as contracts, ensuring compliance with procurement legislation, policy, and procedures.
  • Maintain central registers for procurement and contract documentation.
  • Offer expert advice on contract management activities, including managing variations, extensions, and closures.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance procurement processes and outcomes.
  • Assist in facilitating evaluation panels and preparing procurement reports and award documentation.
  • Ensure adherence to procurement governance principles, including transparency and probity.


What You'll Bring

  • Sound knowledge and experience of procurement practices, contract law, and government purchasing policies.
  • Previous Local, State or Federal Government procurement experience..
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to advise stakeholders at all levels.
  • Analytical mindset with solid problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in using procurement systems and Microsoft Office applications.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Business, Law or a related field, and/or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in procurement and contract administration.
  • Valid National Police Clearance.
  • Current 'C' class driver's license (preferred).
