Who are we looking for?

We are seeking an enthusiastic, caring, and down to earth people to become Youth Mentors - positive role models who make a real difference in the lives of young people.

As a Youth Mentor you will be matched with a child or young person under the Guardianship of the Chief Executive who may be feeling disconnected from education or community supports. Each week you will spend meaningful time with them each week doing an activity you plan together, it might be going for a walk, catching a movie, playing sport, or grabbing a bite to eat.

Through these regular outings you will build a safe, supportive relationship where young people feel encourage to grow, try new things and work towards their personal goals.

Being a Mentor at AnglicareSA is about connection, encouragement, and being someone who shows up each week.

What can you expect to be doing?

  • Be a consistent, trusted presence in a young person's life
  • Plan and take part in fun, weekly activities that you and your mentee plan together
  • Support them in building confidence, social skills, and a sense of belonging
  • Help them identify goals and celebrate small wines

What do you need to bring?

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with young people from diverse backgrounds
  • A non-judgemental approach and an understanding of trauma informed care
  • Demonstrated commitment to reflective practice that focuses on strengths and builds capacity of individuals.

Qualifications

  • Qualifications in (or working towards) either Psychology, Community Services, Social Work or similar will be highly regarded

Special Conditions

  • Safe Environments Through Their Eyes training certificate OR Responding to Abuse and Neglect certificate
  • First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
  • National Police Clearance (or willingness to obtain)
