Your New Role
This position plays a key role in the Internal Government Portfolio team. The role is responsible for contributing to the construction, management and oversight of the internal global government bond portfolio and alpha overlay.
Role Responsibilities include:
- Working closely with the internal global fixed income team in Australia and London to deliver consistent risk adjusted investment performance on physical and derivatives portfolios;
- Contributing to the development of investment processes, including relevant quantitative models, to support the investment strategy of the portfolio;
- Analysing new and alternative investment strategies relating to beta replication, security selection and relative value alpha generation and/or cost minimisation;
- Undertaking in-depth analysis and research on key investment ideas as directed by the Head of Internal Government Portfolios;
- Managing portfolio and compliance-related risks and obligations;
- Communicating and explaining investment performance and processes to key internal stakeholders;
- Contributing to papers and discussion for internal forums and committees;
- Managing relationships with key external parties, including brokers/investment banks.
This is a permanent position based in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane (ideal).
What You'll Need
- Significant experience in AUD fixed income markets (governments, semis, SSAs, derivatives) and other global rates markets;
- Highly technical specialist experience managing large bond portfolios, and unfunded derivatives strategies, and all the embedded operational aspects;
- Significant experience in day-to-day fixed income portfolio management and construction, preferably with an institutional investment organisation;
- Global fixed Income experience and comprehensive knowledge of:
- Central bank policy functions;
- Developed markets sovereign bonds;
- Derivatives (futures, interest rate, inflation and cross-currency swaps) Semis, and other local authority / SSA issuers;
- Extensive experience in building and applying fixed income investment processes and models that generate alpha from relative value and security selection strategies;
- A demonstrated track record of achieving alpha targets in managing fixed income portfolios using physical and derivatives securities;
- Strong quantitative skills;
- Strong people and relationship management skills - the role will involve managing one team member;
- Building and maintaining effective relationships with key external and internal stakeholders;
- Strong written, oral communication and presentation skills;
- Tertiary qualifications in Finance/Economics or Maths/Engineering or a related field.
