We have an exciting new opportunity for a Land Governance Officer to join our high performing Governance team. You will be first point of contact for any land tenure enquiries. You’ll also be responsible for maintaining our land asset register and tending to land dealings and transactions related to Council’s land portfolio.

What We Are Looking For
We have an exciting new opportunity for a Land Governance Officer to join our high performing Governance team. You will be first point of contact for any land tenure enquiries. You’ll also be responsible for maintaining our land asset register and tending to land dealings and transactions related to Council’s land portfolio.
What Your Day Will Look Like
- Contribute to the ongoing strategic review of Council’s land assets
- Maintain and update the land asset register to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Conduct regular audits of land assets to verify information and identify discrepancies
- Manage, prepare, and review property dealings documentation, including Department of Resources forms, licences, consents, permits to occupy, agreements and easements and the related lodgements and registrations.
- Provide technical advice on Council’s property portfolio
- Prepare briefings, reports and submissions on land tenure issues and projects
- Manage the compulsory land acquisition process and lead property transactions
- Investigate enquiries from the public related to land use
What You’ll Need For Success

- Tertiary qualifications (AQF level 7 or above) in a relevant discipline (law, planning, land management, valuation); and/or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the legislative and regulatory frameworks relevant to land and property transactions, land tenure and native title matters, preferably within a local government context.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of land and property transactions, land tenure and native title projects within a local government or similar environment.
- Highly developed written skills with experience in developing strategies, reports, briefs, submissions, and instructions of a complex nature relating to the land portfolio, associated dealings and commercial activities.
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including consultation and negotiation skills and experience developing and managing diverse stakeholder relationships.
- Proficient in using asset management software and Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) to support land asset management and reporting activities.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and judgement, establish work priorities, meet deadlines and manage time effectively in line with organisational goals and requirements.
- Current driver's licence.
- Experience undertaking land transactions
- An awareness of the Native Title and Aboriginal Cultural Heritage land management
