Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake regular chemical application of parks maintenance and associated areas and specific plant communities, including but not limited to grass, garden, reserves & roadside areas using a dedicated spray vehicle (utility task vehicle and spray unit).
  • Perform grass and vegetation maintenance, including snipping, mowing, and tree maintenance, in accordance with horticultural and chemical management practices.
  • Ensure timely maintenance and appropriate use of spray vehicles and other equipment, including tractors and slashers.
  • Conduct visual inspections of natural assets and identify depreciated park and garden infrastructure for repair.
  • Undertake amenities and infrastructure cleaning.
  • Operate and maintain small plant equipment, including power tools.
  • Utilise technological devices for communication, data collection, and work order systems.
  • Complete scheduled works and contribute to specific projects.
  • Meet customer and stakeholder requirements while maintaining council's image and reputation.
  • Perform other responsibilities as directed by the immediate supervisor within the scope of this position.


Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • General Construction Induction Training.
  • QLD “C” Class Driver’s Licence or interstate equivalent.
  • ACDC Commercial Operators Licence.
  • Chemical Accreditation (AQF3).
  • Practical experience in weed control and vegetation restoration.
  • Experience operating spraying equipment in various environments, including high-profile locations.
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment associated with holistic park maintenance, including power tools.
  • Experience and knowledge to identify and control a broad range of turf and garden bed weeds, including declared weeds.
  • Experience in the use of herbicides and pesticides.

Desirable:

  • Certificate III in Horticulture.
  • Medium Rigid (MR) Licence.
  • Operate and maintain chainsaws - Level 1.
  • Chemical Risk Management (AQF4).
  • Practical experience working in public gardens, landscaping, and/or general labouring.


Special Requirements

  • Occasional out-of-hours work (including weekends).
  • Regular local travel.
  • Requirement to undertake physical work in various outdoor environments.
