Associate 1+ Years PQE (Defamation & Insurance)

ROLE:
Kennedys is looking for a highly motivated Associate with 1-2 PQE to join our Sydney office working on a mix of defamation, general insurance, financial lines and dispute resolution matters.
This is a rare opportunity for a driven candidate to develop their career in the defamation and insurance space, working closely with our esteemed Partner, Nathan Buck and wider team of talented global lawyers.
Nathan specialises in media and technology, reputational, brand and crisis management, professional indemnity, directors' and officers' liability, sports law, inquiries and inquests, strata disputes and migration. Nathan represents insurers across all lines of business and has significant experience in both coverage and defence work.
We are looking for a high performer with strong academics and proven defamation, commercial litigation or general insurance experience who can work relatively autonomously on cases with senior input as required.

The Insurance team in Sydney have extensive experience across multiple lines of insurance work, with a particular depth of expertise in professional indemnity, financial institutions, directors' and officers' (D&O), medical malpractice, public and product liability, property and construction, energy, cyber, marine, transport and employment.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- A commercial litigator with some prior defamation exposure (whether plaintiff or defendant)
- On the insurance side, complex indemnity and coverage experience is preferable but not essential
- Australian Qualified Lawyer with 1-2 years' PQE
- Technically astute with a clear, confident communication style and strong drafting abilities
- Strong academics
DESIRABLE:
- Direct experience with clients including attendance at business development events
- Experience attending mediations, negotiations & settlement conferences.
