What You'll Do

As a Financial Accountant based in Melbourne, you will play an integral role in supporting the finance function during an exciting period of organisational growth. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve preparing comprehensive financial reports in line with industry standards while maintaining robust general ledger records through meticulous reconciliations and journal management. You will be actively involved in both month-end and year-end closing activities, working closely with colleagues across the finance team to ensure timely completion of all deliverables. In addition to supporting budget preparation and forecasting efforts, you will take ownership of statutory compliance tasks such as BAS, FBT, payroll tax lodgements, and more. Your expertise will also be called upon during external audits where you will collaborate with auditors to provide required information efficiently. By monitoring internal controls and identifying process improvements, you will help strengthen the overall financial governance framework. Furthermore, your analytical skills will contribute valuable insights for business decision-making while your ability to work collaboratively ensures effective partnerships with AP/AR, Payroll, and other key stakeholders.

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in accordance with relevant accounting standards such as IFRS and AASB, ensuring accuracy and compliance at all times.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger by performing reconciliations, processing journal entries, and managing accruals to support reliable financial data.
  • Assist with both month-end and year-end closing processes by collaborating closely with other finance team members to meet reporting deadlines.
  • Support the preparation of annual budgets as well as periodic forecasts by providing accurate financial information and insightful analysis.
  • Prepare and lodge statutory obligations including BAS, FBT, payroll tax, and other compliance reporting requirements in line with regulatory deadlines.
  • Assist with external audits by liaising effectively with auditors and providing necessary documentation to facilitate smooth audit processes.
  • Monitor internal controls and accounting processes regularly to identify areas for improvement and implement enhancements where needed.
  • Contribute to financial analysis activities that support informed business decision-making across various departments within the organisation.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with company policies as well as established accounting principles through diligent review of procedures and transactions.
  • Collaborate proactively with Accounts Payable/Receivable, Payroll, and other finance functions to ensure seamless operations across the department.

  • Understanding of budgeting processes along with experience supporting annual budget preparation and periodic forecasting activities.
  • Previous involvement in external audit processes including liaising directly with auditors to provide necessary documentation promptly.
  • Track record of monitoring internal controls and implementing process improvements within finance functions for enhanced efficiency.
  • Well-developed analytical skills enabling you to contribute meaningfully to financial analysis that supports business decisions across departments.
