About The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander leader to join our Integrated Scheduling and Planning team as a Principal Advisor Closure. In this role you will primarily lead a team of closure planning professionals to meet Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s closure commitments, strengthen partnerships and balance environmental, financial and social risks.
Indigenous insights are critical to advancing meaningful partnerships and inclusive decision-making. An Indigenous leader in this role will play a key part in guiding culturally informed approaches and driving sustainable outcomes across Western Australia.
As the Principal Advisor Closure, you will report to the Manager Rehab and Closure and have responsibility and ownership over the following duties

What We Offer
You and your team will be Perth-based with opportunity to work flexibly from home combined with time in our Central Park offices. There will be the opportunity for some Pilbara site travel from time to time, however this will be performed on an ad-hoc basis.

About The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander leader to join our Integrated Scheduling and Planning team as a Principal Advisor Closure. In this role you will primarily lead a team of closure planning professionals to meet Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s closure commitments, strengthen partnerships and balance environmental, financial and social risks.

As the Principal Advisor Closure, you will report to the Manager Rehab and Closure and have responsibility and ownership over the following duties
- Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive workplace for employees and contractors.
- Lead a team of high performing technical professionals, connected across Rio Tinto Iron Ore functionally and strategically
- Enable a culture of continuous improvement through coaching, identifying, evaluating and implementing improvement opportunities
- Strengthen working relationships with internal and external stakeholders that support effective closure outcomes within studies, approvals, industry and internal closure practitioners.
- Support the engagement and connection with Traditional Owners in understanding the cultural requirements in relation to closure.
- Manage program level closure risks and driving knowledge gap reductions at a Hub level.
- Manage the development and delivery of the Rehab and Closure’s 5-year strategic plan and annual plan to improve control effectiveness and reduce closure liability
- Develop effective processes and ways of working to improve closure efficacy
- Understand and proactively influence industry and regulatory developments, with implications for RTIO closure
- Provide business direction and upskilling on closure to team and broader business
To be considered for this role, we are looking for candidates who bring
- Inclusive leadership with a people-centric approach
- Critical thinking and ability to synthesise information into clear narrative
- Capacity to manage several activities and issues at any given time
- Strong business planning and financial management skills
- Technical understanding and experience in mine closure planning
- Strong experience in stakeholder engagement and partnerships, particularly with Regulators and Traditional Owners
- Strong experience in project planning and delivery including contractor management
- Risk management experience
- Experience in Studies, Communities and/or operational support
- Tertiary or University level qualifications in a relevant field (is preferred)
- C Class Manual Driver's License
