This opportunity is within our Construction team focusing on “back end” construction disputes. There may be some “front end” work available also.
Our Construction team is highly regarded for its expertise across the WA construction (and related) sectors and is one of the largest in Western Australia. This exceptional opportunity involves working directly with Partners Tom Jacobs, Isla McRobbie, Lauren Cook, Edward Parra and Belinda Wong, who are leading practitioners in their field.
We act for a number of major organisations in the industry, and a range of clients including principals, contractors, consultants and government bodies. Our team is collaborative and friendly and enjoys strong links with key bodies such as the Master Builders Association, Civil Contractors Federation, Mining and Resource connections; SOCLA and Consult Australia.
We have a particular strength advising clients on their payment disputes arising under the Building and Construction Industry (Security of Payment) Act and we are seeing increased levels of work in this area.
About You
With at least 5 years PAE, you will ideally have experience working on a range of commercial disputes, preferably in the building, construction, and engineering sectors, but by no means essential. Ideally you will also have:

About You
With at least 5 years PAE, you will ideally have experience working on a range of commercial disputes, preferably in the building, construction, and engineering sectors, but by no means essential. Ideally you will also have:
- excellent legal knowledge and technical ability, with proven experience;
- some procedural knowledge (of the rules relating to litigation; domestic arbitration and adjudication);
- knowledge of the legal issues concerning construction and engineering projects in Western Australia (desirable);
- some contract drafting experience (in the various common forms of contracts within the construction sector) (optional);
- sound judgment and commercial acumen;
- confidence to act in a client-facing role; and
- understanding and knowledge in the use of various IT systems.
- experience of (or a strong desire and commitment to learn) construction law and practice, with motivation to contribute to the continued growth and success of the team;
- desire to succeed in private practice;
- commitment to delivering exceptional standards in your work; and
- proactivity and enthusiasm to see tasks through to completion.
