We are looking for a Principal Applied Scientist to join our team and help shape the future of AI-powered video creation. As an applied scientist at Microsoft, you’ll have access to cutting-edge generative AI models, LLMs, AI tooling and research. You will collaborate with research teams, build and fine-tune models, and design world-class solutions that simplify and elevate video creation. From automating editing tasks to enabling entirely new forms of storytelling, you’ll help build the next generation of intelligent, user-friendly, video tools.
You’ll join a nimble, cross-disciplinary team embedded within Microsoft, working alongside engineers, product managers, designers, and researchers to deliver innovative solutions. Responsibilities
- Serve as an expert within a team on changes in industry/market trends, products, industry advances, and opportunities in applied technologies across relevant applied research areas.
- Review business and product requirements and incorporate state-of-the-art research occurring at Microsoft and the academic field to formulate plans that will meet business goals.
- Bring new technology and approaches into production by applying long-term research efforts to solve product needs across quality, performance, and efficiency.
- Proactively provide mentorship and coaching to team members by sharing expertise, guiding team members in projects and their careers, and to establish best practices and standards.
- Nurture and grow collaborative relationships with product or business group leaders inside or outside Microsoft and provide expertise or technology to create business impact.
- Create and sustain an effective team culture. We value and promote a high trust environment where we work closely and effectively with others.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in Large Language Models (LLMs), including experience with training, fine-tuning, and deploying LLMs for various applications.
- Expertise in one or more subareas (e.g., Object Recognition, Text Classification) and a broad understanding of research areas.
- Hands on experience with server-side or on-device models, with fluency in Python, C# and Typescript.
- Experience shipping high-quality products at scale.
- 6+ years of professional experience in ML including designing, developing, testing, and shipping software in a full software development lifecycle.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Applied Science, Data Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related disciplines.
- Passion for customers, innovation, and product quality.
- Experience monitoring of production or AI training tasks
