What You Will Be Doing In This Role

As the Chief Health Information Manager (internally known as Network Health Information Manager), you will oversee the strategic direction and operational performance of the Health Information Services across our two sites—Sydney Adventist Hospital and San Day Surgery Hornsby. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, you will ensure the seamless integration and continuous improvement of health information systems, aligning them with organisational goals and regulatory standards.

You will champion the transition to a fully automated and digitised health information system, including the shift to electronic medical records and implementation of AI solutions, to enhance service delivery and operational performance. You will also be responsible for managing the departmental budget and potentially hold Privacy Officer responsibilities.

Crucially, you’ll lead, inspire, and develop your team through continuous coaching and training, promoting a culture of excellence and ensuring that departmental targets are met with efficiency and professionalism.

Who We’re Looking For

This role requires a minimum of five years’ management experience in a tertiary hospital and comprehensive knowledge of contemporary Health Information Management (HIM) practice.

  • You'll hold a Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or equivalent and you’ll be eligible for full membership of the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA).
  • You'll possess in-depth knowledge of contemporary Health Information Management (HIM) practices, including relevant legislation, policy, private health funding, and experience in clinical coding.
  • You'll have proven experience with performance frameworks, health funding models (especially private), and related data collections and solid understanding of health information legislation, medical record management, and privacy regulations.
  • You'll be familiar with private health sector funding, billing, and associated requirements.
  • You'll bring expertise in healthcare information technology, its structure, interoperability, and identified gaps.
  • You'll demonstrate strong organisational, communication, leadership, and negotiation skills, along with excellent interpersonal and presentation abilities.
  • You'll have strong leadership experience in managing teams within a multi-functional department.
  • You'll (ideally) have prior experience as a Privacy Officer.
