The role

You will lead and manage a team of supervisors, who are accountable for delivering on supervisory strategies and action plans.
The role is a member of the LPHIS Manager team and will report into a Senior Manager in the Life Private Health Insurance and Superannuation Division (LPHIS).

The team

The LPHIS Division performs prudential supervision and risk assess a defined group of regulated entities to achieve APRA’s purpose of ensuring a stable, competitive and efficient financial system. The division comprises supervisory teams and specialist teams that operate across the country.

Key responsibilities

  • Managing and developing a team to supervise effectively and deliver strengthened prudential outcomes for the Superannuation industry;
  • Modelling inclusive leadership behaviours and instilling an open culture within the team, where divergent views are shared and respected;
  • Developing and guiding your team in identifying critical institutional and mitigating prudential issues before they manifest;
  • Maintaining up to date and relevant knowledge of industry issues that may impact supervised superannuation funds;
  • Adapting the style and approach of supervision depending on the organisation’s type, size, complexity, functions and risk and be flexible to deal with the different outcomes which may arise;
  • Coaching your team in assessing the quality of the supervised financial institution’s management, strategies, practices and systems;
  • Matching team resources against identified division wide supervision priorities, given the large range of organisation types and business activities;
  • Collaborate effectively with inter-state colleagues across the division; and
  • Working with the LPHIS Leadership Team and Manager cohort to deliver on APRA priorities.

About you

  • Team management and leadership experience is preferred;
  • Knowledge or strong interest in superannuation industry trends and ecosystem;
  • Strong technical knowledge of superannuation legislation or a commitment to learn;
  • Well-developed communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills;
  • Good judgement skills to identify, best practice and situations to identify actual or potential problems in supervised financial institutions;
  • Ability to confidently engage with senior executives in supervised financial institutions to foster and achieve prudent practice;
  • Excellent organisational, self and priority management skills. Openness to learning and adapting in a dynamic environment; and
  • Supportive and inclusive individual.
