About the ED at LGH

As a 43-bed unit with over 45,000 annual presentations and a 30% admission rate, the LGH Emergency Department is the referral centre for Northern Tasmania. You’ll be exposed to a high-acuity, broad-spectrum caseload—including a significant paediatric component—supported by all major specialties and an ICU with ECMO capability. Our FACEMs are available for direct clinical supervision from 8am to midnight, seven days a week.

What You Can Expect as an LGH ED Registrar

Our Registrars benefit from hands-on, personalised training across a wide spectrum of emergency care. We offer:

  • ACEM accreditation for 24 months of Emergency Training, including paediatric logbook and TS4.
  • Protected teaching time: 4 hours per week, including focused paediatrics and simulation training.
  • Strong support for exam success, with experienced examiners on staff.
  • Rotational opportunities in Anaesthetics and medical specialties.
  • 6-month Ultrasound Special Skills Placement.
  • ACRRM Advanced Skills placements and ACEM Associateship Training pathways.

Our department fosters a positive, inclusive learning environment where education, mentorship, and enthusiasm for emergency medicine are paramount.

What You Need

  • Sound knowledge and skills in Emergency Medicine within the Australian healthcare context.
  • Enrolment in a relevant college such as ACEM or ACRRM, or a plan to begin this journey.
  • Experience in acute resuscitation and clinical leadership.

  • Positions from February 2026, full-time or part-time (earlier commencement can be negotiated).
  • Medical Practitioner Level 5–11 salary range: $134,930 – $189,005 + 11.5% superannuation.
  • Continuing Professional Development allowance of $3,183.
