The opportunity

We're on the look-out for a proactive and client-centred Diabetes Nurse Educator to join our Education Services department.

This position sits within our Education Services Domain which encompasses client education in clinics and group programs, health professional training, consultancy, project management, health promotion and research. We are predominately funded through the Department of Health and Human Services Victoria to deliver care to all of the community.

The position holder will be primarily based within clinical services at our Prahran site however travel may be required within Melbourne Metropolitan area to provide consultations and within Australia to attend health professional training and conferences

How you will make a difference

As a Diabetes Nurse Educator you will be responsible for conducting client individual and group education services and presenting at relevant health professional training programs.

You will become a valued member of our innovative Education Services team at the Institute. Through this key role, you can contribute to our vision to help people to live healthier for longer, and to stop heart disease and diabetes in their tracks.

How you'll make an impact

In This Role You Will Be Expected To

  • Conduct individual and group clinical session and programs as rostered by the Director of Allied Health and Education Services in accordance with the relevant policies, procedures and lesson plans.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with clients and the ability to develop and maintain rapport including individual consultations and group education sessions.
  • Provide client centred education empowering clients to self-manage their condition.
  • Ensure own knowledge and skills in diabetes education are of a high standard and in accordance with current clinical guidelines.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the principles of quality improvement and participate in quality activities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records and data entry for internal and external reporting, including patient records, letters, appointments, services and weekly statistics.
  • Supervise students and ensure practices are in accordance to professional standards and competencies.

What will you bring?

You Will Have

  • Accreditation as a Credentialled Diabetes Nurse Educator with experience providing clinical support and education for people with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes preferred.
  • Experience or willingness to deliver group education programs or health professional training face to face or by online technology.
  • Experience or willingness to learn diabetes technologies including insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring and related databases.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, including the ability to manage a range of tasks with conflicting priorities without compromising close attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a proactive team member and contribute to team development and work effectively in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to take initiative and to improve and enhance existing systems and procedures.
  • A high level of interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of people at a variety of levels internal and external to the Institute.
