Lead Firmware Engineer

Central Sydney location

Flexible hybrid working rhythm

What if there was a way for infrastructure to evolve and thrive, without costing the Earth?

Our client has dedicated their existence to this thesis, building unique devices that:

  • Monitor site safety and environmental impact
  • Enable customers to tackle threats to both in real time
  • Maintain and measure an inventory of related data

The problem

  • A peerless product. Rapid growth. Well funded. Decades of living as the customer. Hardly problematic, you say. I'm getting to it:
  • These folks are poised to go global, but can't get there without advancements across their product line
  • The team is sharp, future-forward, and diversely skilled
  • They need a leader to
    • Set the direction for firmware projects
    • Lead from the front
    • Steward the engineers' personal growth journeys
    • Architect for the future
Why should that be interesting to you?

  • You've "been there, done that" when it comes to performant firmware environments that evolve, not just cope, with scale
  • You're motivated by encouraging junior engineers to forge their own growth path, with your guidance
  • You're ready for "that" move that you look back on as pivotal in your career's upward trajectory
  • You've thought, "I've got ideas" but lacked the kind of scope to voice them
  • You've thrived influencing a range of stakeholders, and you want more of it
  • You can't explain why, but you're intrinsically drawn to growing these areas alongside your engineering chops
  • You've added more features than you've had hot dinners, and you're ready for greener/browner-looking opportunities to put your name to

The likely solution to the problem

A meeting of minds, one mind being our client's, and the other mind likely resembling:

  • Seasoned firmware engineer first. Think:
    • Skills built in scaling embedded IoT environments
    • C/C++, Python, (Free) RTOS - the usual suspects
    • "What STM32 looks like at scale" - our client
  • Proven leader, or senior engineer with positive leadership potential signals
  • Confident and articulate when engaging a range of stakeholders in healthy debate
  • Understanding over-the-air devices
  • Scaled a firmware/embedded team while the company around it grows. Quickly. Living to tell the tale

Bonus Points For

  • Understanding
    • Contech/proptech
    • Audio signal processing
  • Hardware engineer in a former life
