Position Information
Canterbury Vale School is a School for Specific Purposes with an enrolment of 49 students (Years 7-12), located in Lakemba. The school provides intensive support for 21 students with behaviour difficulties, 7 students with emotional disturbance and 21 students with mental health and autism spectrum disorders. Enrolled students remain as a shared enrolment and the school offers an integration program based on individual needs.

Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria:
- Approval to teach Special Education and / or successful experience teaching students with mental health, emotional disturbance, challenging behaviours and autism spectrum disorders.
- Proven leadership and or experience in special education, working collaboratively as an integral member of the leadership team to embed a culture of high expectations, continuous improvement and innovation through the school’s strategic directions and priorities
- Highly developed communication, organisational and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead collaboration between staff, parents, mainstream schools and other key stakeholders
- Capacity to support teachers and school staff in initiating improvement in school-wide wellbeing practices, literacy, numeracy and assessment
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
