We are currently seeking enthusiastic and committed Interschool Sports Coaches to join our vibrant and inclusive Sport Department.
About the Role
The Interschool Sports Coach plays a vital role in delivering MLC’s sport program to students in Years 5–12. The program supports students in achieving personal goals, building friendships, and developing leadership, teamwork, and resilience through sport.
As a member of Girls’ Sport Victoria (GSV)—a sporting association comprising 23 independent girls’ schools—MLC provides a broad range of competitive sporting opportunities during both training sessions and interschool fixtures. Coaches work alongside specialist staff and are supported by the Interschool Sports Manager and Head of Interschool Sport, who also facilitate professional learning and development opportunities.
The role requires attendance at one weekly training session and one weekly interschool fixture per season. Sessions may occur before or after school, and some weekend work may be required.
Some of your primary duties and responsibilities will include:
- Coaching and mentoring students from Years 5 to 12 in their chosen GSV sport
- Planning and delivering engaging training sessions in line with the College’s sporting philosophy
- Supporting students to develop sport-specific skills, teamwork, and positive sporting behaviours
- Upholding and promoting MLC values of Respect, Responsibility, Compassion, and Courage
- Creating a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable sporting environment that fosters student development
- Collaborating with fellow coaches and College staff to ensure smooth operations of the program
- Committing to child safety standards and professional boundaries in all interactions
- Experience coaching youth sports, ideally within a school or club environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build rapport with students and staff
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team and adapt to a dynamic schedule
- Sound organisational and time management skills
- A proactive, enthusiastic, and supportive coaching style
- Understanding of the Child Safe Standards and a commitment to student wellbeing
- Current Working with Children Check (WWCC)
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Contribute to a sport program that promotes student wellbeing, engagement, and growth
- Work in a supportive team environment with opportunities for professional learning
- Be part of a values-driven community committed to empowering girls through education
- Gain experience in one of Melbourne’s leading independent girls’ schools
MLC puts child safety at the forefront and is committed to providing a child-safe environment. The safety of our students is paramount and is the responsibility of all staff.
