About The Role

The Engineering Technician Electrical will be responsible for conducting both planned and unplanned maintenance of Drinking (Potable) Water Treatment, Waste Water Treatment and Surplus Water infrastructure in accordance with BHP policies and procedures

Reporting to the Supervisor, Water maintenance, Infrastructure and Services, your duties will include:

  • Demonstrate an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Ensure all incidents, near misses or hazards are reported and investigated to ensure compliance with the WAIO reporting guidelines.
  • Inspection, servicing, adjustment, troubleshooting and repair of all water infrastructure equipment.
  • Work with your Supervisor and in accordance with the 1SAP work management processes, to ensure works are completed based on the pre defined plan
  • Monitoring of asset conditions and compliance to statutory maintenance and inspection requirements
  • Ensuring accurate completion of documentation including drawings, log books and management of change as necessary.
  • Ensure all data entry including scoping notifications is completed and properly recorded in 1SAP
  • Understand and support water technicians in the reliable operations of water treatment for the safe delivery of Australian Drinking Water Guideline (ADWG) compliant water services
  • Assist the supervisor to prioritise, plan and monitor workflow and work orders via 1SAP.
  • Assist the Supervisor in identifying and implementing improvement initiatives that contribute value to the business and in alignment with the BHP Operating Principles (BOS)
  • Positive influence to the team to ensure a safe, productive, quality, sustainable and disciplined approach to work.
  • Attend after hours faults as part of a rotational rostered call out team
  • Previous experience or willingness to work towards a step up role as a development goal.

Location

With this role you have the choice of either being residentially based in Newman or FIFO from Perth to Newman on a 7/7 roster. In the Infrastructure and Services team you would be working alongside a committed and outcomes focused team that dedicatedly approaches the challenges they face. The team is passionate about achieving the intention of our company charter in every job and challenges are seen as opportunities for improvement.

You will be working at the BHP Exploration office in Newman. The 7,000 strong population of Newman enjoys well-established town facilities including a newly revitalised town centre and sporting facilities. As a gateway to the Karijini national park, you will be in close proximity to spectacular gorges, water courses and stunningly unique landscapes.

About You

As the successful candidate, you will possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Australia recognised Electrical trade qualification
  • Western Australia Electrical License
  • Demonstrated experience in mine site maintenance
  • Demonstrated Experience in the water industry is highly desirable but not essential
  • Water treatment instrumentation / PLC/ Control system / and instrument calibration experience
  • Sound communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be dedicated to Continuous Improvements
  • Ability to work closely in a team environment
  • Valid Australian C class driver’s licence
