The Opportunity


The Future Fund Academy is the Future Fund's in-house leadership and investment development organisation. Its primary function is to act as a central pillar in ensuring the organisations unique culture, purpose and way of investing continues to be well-understood and applied by all our staff. To succeed in this, the Academy has developed dedicated programs that focus on investment technical skills, leadership development, and inclusion. As the Director, Academy - Investment Excellence, you will play a leadership role in continuing to grow the Academy, developing seniors, and leading investment development programs that teach the way we invest. You will also lead the design and implementation of the organisation's annual development programs, such as the annual leaders' day for the organisation's senior leadership, as well as the annual investment competition.


Key Responsibilities


As Director, Academy - Investment Excellence your focus will be on improving our investors' performance and developing our leaders. This includes designing and delivering comprehensive investment development programs that emphasise the Future Fund's sophisticated joined-up version of the total portfolio approach, as well as overseeing senior leadership initiatives like the program for senior leaders. The role also involves directing significant Academy events.

Additionally, the position requires leading the Good Decisions Program, which is the organisation's in-house decision quality development and improvement program. Collaboration with the Investment team is crucial to ensure that Academy programs align with the overall strategy. The role also plays a key role to the strategic direction of the Academy and provides leadership support to the Academy team, including executive coaching for senior leaders, ultimately shaping a skilled and effective workforce within the Future Fund.


About You


We are looking for a candidate with demonstrable understanding of investment decision making process within an institutional setting, emphasising expertise in investment strategies, decision-making, and portfolio management. A bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business, or a related field is required, while an advanced degree is preferred.


Candidates should have exceptional communication skills to facilitate discussions with senior leaders and demonstrate strong leadership and interpersonal abilities to influence, engage and collaborate effectively across various organisational levels. An imaginative thinker with a strategic mindset is essential for aligning educational programs with the Agency's goals, along with familiarity with decision science concepts and program management experience involving multiple stakeholders. Previous participation in investment committees is highly desirable, as is experience in creating and delivering leadership and investment skill development programs.


Key competencies include a deep understanding of investment principles, portfolio management, and risk management, alongside the ability to teach and facilitate complex concepts engagingly. Candidates should be skilled in diagnosing organisational needs and translating them into practical programs, with effective collaboration and negotiation skills. A results-oriented approach is crucial for achieving measurable outcomes, along with awareness of global investment trends and technological impacts, including AI. Proficiency in enhancing decision quality and promoting inclusion in decision-making processes is also vital for this role.
