Lead MoleMap’s AI vision in this 12-month hybrid role. Scale and commercialise Kahu AI, transforming skin cancer detection. Based in Sydney or Auckland with flexible working

At MoleMap, we’ve been on the frontline of skin cancer detection for over 20 years. Our purpose is simple but powerful: to detect skin cancer early, when it's most treatable.

As a Small to Medium-sized Enterprise (SME), we combine the agility of a close-knit team with the impact of cutting-edge innovation. Our size means you won't get lost in the crowd as you will make a real difference, every day.

Now, with the use of Kahu AI in our clinics, we’ve laid the foundation for an AI-led future and we’re ready to take it to the next level.

Reporting to the CEO, this full-time, 12 month, fixed term hybrid position can be based in either Sydney, Australia, or Auckland, New Zealand.

That’s where you come in and this is the opportunity

We're seeking a Head of AI, a strategic thinker and hands-on implementor to lead the next wave of innovation across our business. You’ll bring deep technical understanding, an experimental mindset, and commercial curiosity to:

Embed AI capabilities across clinical workflows, patient journeys, and business operations.

Investigate commercially available AI tools to enhance MoleMap's value proposition and performance.

Identify opportunities to leverage MoleMap's data to develop and expand our own AI tools, collaborating with research organizations as needed.

Lead the rollout of MoleMap's Kahu AI into our Australian clinics, building on its two-year success in New Zealand, where it’s already delivering exceptional results in early detection and clinician support. Explore new additional commercial opportunities for the use of this technology.

Enhance AI-driven audit tracking and traceability capabilities to ensure ongoing clinical safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and implement MoleMap's AI strategy
  • Facilitate MoleMap's AI Governance process
  • Identify and prioritise AI opportunities, from diagnostic intelligence to workflow automation and beyond.
  • Work closely with the senior leadership team to translate vision into scalable outcomes.
  • Consider the emergence of agentic AI and how this can benefit our staff and customers
  • Identify, experiment, prototype, and deploy AI solutions in collaboration with clinicians, product leaders, and operations teams.
  • Provide education, training and assistance to ensure staff and patients make optimal use of the AI solutions we have available.
  • Champion ethical, explainable AI that earns trust from patients, practitioners, and regulators.
  • Lead the Kahu AI team, including our Data Scientist and Quality Management System Administrator to ensure we continuously evolve Kahu AI to avoid model drift, ensure relevance, and uphold clinical accuracy as the ecosystem scales.
  • Design and implement the quality management processes to ensure the Kahu AI solutions achieve and maintain regulatory clearance in New Zealand and Australia.
  • Build internal capability through partnerships, tools, and (eventually) a small but mighty AI team.
  • What You Bring

Must-Have Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years in artificial intelligence, machine learning, or data science roles, with at least 2 in a leadership position.

  • Proven experience with design and implementation of quality management processes.
  • Strong hands-on capability with modern data manipulation and AI tools and frameworks.
  • Experience working with large language models and agentic AI systems.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into business value for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to demonstrate both strategic thinking and hands-on execution in an agile, high-impact environment.
  • Passion for ethical AI, data privacy, and safety in patient-facing applications.

Nice-to-Have / Desired

  • Background in healthcare, medtech, or regulated environments.
  • Experience with clinical decision support systems, medical imaging, or dermatology datasets.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (eg, Azure, AWS, GCP) best practices.
  • Experience supporting or leading AI projects through the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approval process or other regulatory pathways (eg. medsafe).
  • Desire to grow into a senior leadership role as the business scales.
