About the role

Grampians Health Ballarat is seeking to appoint a full-time (38hrs per week) Fellow in General Surgery with a broad base of skills for a fixed term of 12months, commencing February 2026.

The successful applicant will have FRACS/GESA and be prepared to work across the range of general surgery. The role will be responsible for an outpatient clinic, operating theatre/endoscopy sessions as well as ward rounds and administrative time as per the demands of the workload. The applicant will be expected to participate in the general surgery oncall and ASU roster. The role will also have a supervisory role over junior surgical staff.

The role will provide excellent exposure to a range of elective and emergency general surgery for a Fellow looking to consolidate their experience.

The successful candidate will form a part of the acute surgical team with 6 consultant surgeons. Sessions outside the acute commitments can be tailored to the candidate’s interests. The successful candidate will form part of the on-call and ASU roster and will manage emergency general surgery and trauma in after hours.


Skills and experience

The surgical fellow performs a key role in service provision at the hospital. They are involved in day to day management of the acute surgical patients and those patients in their special interest field. This will require management of emergency and elective theatre lists, leading junior team members, involvement in audit, and the provision of surgical education and training to surgical registrars (see position description).


This is a fixed term, full time role. The remuneration is in line with the most recent EBA, and includes CME with salary sacrifice options.
