BOQ Group

Date: 2 days ago
City: Brisbane, Queensland
Contract type: Full time
About The Role

Are you passionate about agribusiness and credit risk management? Are you looking for a pivotal role where you can support sustainable agricultural growth while safeguarding the bank’s lending portfolio? We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as an Agribusiness Senior Credit Risk Manager.

As a key member of our team, your primary purpose will be to assess, structure, and make decisions on credit submissions within the agribusiness portfolio, in line with BOQ’s risk appetite and strategic objectives. You will exercise an appropriate Delegated Approval Authority (DAA) or escalate submissions to the relevant DAA holder, ensuring a strong credit culture and sound portfolio outcomes

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Credit Analysis & Structuring: Assess, analyse, and structure complex agribusiness lending proposals, including seasonal finance, equipment funding, and rural property transactions. Apply sound judgment considering agricultural cycles, commodity risks, climate variability, and regional factors.
  • Portfolio Oversight: Conduct regular reviews to ensure risk ratings remain accurate and reflect the financial and operational performance of customers. Identify early warning signs and take pre-emptive action when required.
  • Remedial Action: Proactively identify and implement strategies to manage and mitigate credit deterioration, ensuring exposures remain within the Bank’s risk appetite while supporting long-term client relationships.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Ensure all loan documentation accurately captures the conditions of approval and complies with relevant policies, regulations, and agribusiness standards.
  • Collaboration & Influence: Act as a trusted advisor to Relationship Managers, providing guidance on credit structuring and risk mitigation strategies tailored to the agricultural sector. Contribute to credit forums and pipeline meetings to support proactive decision-making.
  • Coaching & Development: Support a high-performing credit culture by coaching colleagues and sharing knowledge on agribusiness lending practices, financial analysis, and sector-specific risks.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate closely with front-line teams and business development specialists to align credit decisions with business strategy, customer needs, and market opportunities. Champion a “one-team” approach with open, empathetic communication.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will bring extensive experience in agribusiness credit risk management, including exercising credit approval authority within a financial institution or specialised rural lending environment. Your deep understanding of agricultural production systems, commodity markets, and seasonal cash flows enables you to assess complex lending scenarios and make informed, balanced credit decisions.

You possess strong financial acumen and are highly skilled in interpreting farm and agribusiness financial statements, including trading results, cash flow forecasts, and asset positions. You’re adept at evaluating multi-entity structures, succession planning arrangements, and off-farm income streams, with a strong appreciation for land and asset valuations, livestock trading risks, and climate or biosecurity impacts.

Your thorough knowledge of banking policies, prudential standards, and credit risk frameworks ensures your decisions align with regulatory expectations and BOQ’s risk appetite. You bring a solutions-focused mindset, consistently developing tailored credit strategies that reflect sound risk mitigation and long-term viability for clients.

As a confident communicator and trusted adviser, you engage effectively with Relationship Managers, clients, valuers, and internal stakeholders. You have a proven ability to influence outcomes, deliver clear reports, and contribute meaningfully to credit discussions and forums. Highly collaborative yet self-directed, you manage competing priorities while keeping a strong focus on commercial and customer-centric outcomes.
