About The Opportunity

As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end design and implementation of technical data solutions that meet the evolving needs of the organization. You will take ownership of managing solutions with stakeholders, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and aligned with Qscan’s enterprise architecture.

Reporting directly to the Data Manager, and working closely with the Group Executive, Enterprise Applications, you will also provide expert advice on all technical aspects of data system planning, development, integration, and implementation. This role sits within the IT portfolio and plays a critical part in ensuring our data solutions support Qscan’s strategic priorities.

This position is offered on a Permanent, Full-Time basis – we are based in Clayfield and offer flexible working arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deliver IT solutions aligned with Qscan’s strategic goals.
  • Scope and implement cloud-first data integration solutions.
  • Maintain and optimize existing data integrations and internal databases.
  • Build and monitor internal databases for reporting and internal systems.
  • Collaborate with the Security Team to manage data access and encryption.
  • Work with Infrastructure and Development teams to design and manage cloud-based data infrastructure.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on data system planning and integration.
  • Ensure all solutions meet Qscan’s requirements for enterprise scalability.
  • Execute change management and support escalated data issues.
  • Conduct data migrations and conversions as needed.
  • Support the Data Manager and Group Executive with delegated tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation and work with external providers.

Required Skills & Experience

This position is ideal for someone with significant previous experience in a similar role, with the ability to work autonomously; take action on required responsibilities; and report back with progress updates and solutions. The below outline essential experience required:

  • Strong proficiency in: SQL, PostgreSQL, PySpark
  • Experience with Microsoft Cloud Data Warehouse Solutions (at least one of: Fabric, Azure, Databricks)
  • Familiarity with Spark Notebooks, Lakehouse architecture, Pipelines/DataFlows
  • Hands-on experience with Azure PaaS/SaaS (Storage, ELT, Databases)
  • Understanding of DevOps practices (Source Control, Pipelines, Infrastructure as Code)
  • Solid foundation in both on-premise and cloud-based database technologies.

In addition to the above, the below are highly desirable skills;

  • Programming experience in .NET or Python
  • Experience working in Agile environments (Sprints, Stand-ups, Project work)
  • Knowledge of HL7/FHIR/DICOM and other medical data standards
