Sugar Australia is offering a permanent full-time opportunity at our Mackay Port Packing facility for a Packing Operator (Mechanical or Electrical trade background). As part of our production team, you'll play a key role in running our packing, warehouse, and despatch operations, while using your trade expertise to support equipment maintenance and reliability.

This is primarily an operator role, where you'll be hands-on with packaging machinery and daily production activities. Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

As part of our production team, you'll play a key role in running our packing, warehouse, and despatch operations, while using your trade expertise to support equipment maintenance and reliability.
The lifestyle bonus:
Enjoy a 6-week rotating 12-hour roster including:
- Mix of day and night shifts Monday to Thursday.
- No Night shifts on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
- Only 2 Day shifts (1 Saturday, 1 Sunday) every 6 weeks.
What you'll be doing:
This is primarily an operator role, where you'll be hands-on with packaging machinery and daily production activities. Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Operating packaging and bagging machinery efficiently to meet production targets.
- Performing packing, warehouse, and despatch activities with accuracy and timeliness.
- Providing maintenance support for packaging and palletising equipment as required.
- Performing ship loading tasks, including connection, disconnection, and Citect control operations.
- Ensuring compliance with safety procedures and actively contributing to safety initiatives.
- Maintaining accurate shift records, pack sheets, and system data for smooth operations.
- Liaising with maintenance teams to assist with troubleshooting and minor repairs.
- Collaborating with transport and refinery teams to ensure seamless operations and resolve issues.
- Identifying process improvements and cost-saving opportunities.
- Escalating customer concerns promptly and performing necessary checks.
- Contributing to waste minimisation efforts, cleanliness and hygiene standards.
- Responding to equipment breakdowns and troubleshooting issues.
- Supporting annual site shutdown (2 weeks/year) with focused trade work.
- Performing routine maintenance (usually 1 shift per week or fortnight).
- Assisting with small electrical or mechanical projects as needed.
- Trade qualification (mechanical, electrical or dual trade).
- Previous experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on knowledge of plant machinery and equipment.
- Understanding of WHS and safety compliance.
- Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
- Understanding of control systems and computer skills.
- Physically fit and able to perform manual handling activities (up to 25kg)
- Hazardous area training (or willingness to obtain).
- Confident communicator, problem solver, and team player.
- Willingness to work shift work and support the development of others.
