About The Role

A business-critical immediate start role with a industry-leading organisation currently exists in order to fill a key role in their finance team. Taking a hands-on approach, this Financial Controller role will help the business navigate a Payroll Tax Audit by ensuring compliance, preparing documentation, and liaising with auditors. Furthermore, they will provide support to the wider Financial Control team. Initially this will be a 6 month contractual assignment, however there is the opportunity for potential extension should it be needed.

The Responsibilities

Reporting directly into the CFO, your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to);

  • Preparing for the audit process by gathering doucmentation relating to payroll records, contractor classifications, tax returns, etc.
  • Conducting a 360-degree review to identify any discrepancies or compliance issues ahead of the official audit
  • Serve as the liaison between the business and the auditor; co-oordinating meetings, responding to information requests & clarifying financial documentation
  • Provide details on payroll policies, such as bonus payments, fringe benefits, employee reimbursements, and classification decisions
  • Analyse and address the findings; identifying any discrepancies and preparing amended returns / documentation to address these errors
  • Support management in negotiating penalty abatement or settlements with the ATO (if applicable)
  • Implementing controls; developing / enhancing internal Payroll controls & procedures to prevent any future issues arising
  • Ad-hoc projects as-and-when required
  • Drive continuous improvement in systems, reporting, process and efficiency

The successful applicant will have

Ideally, you will be a CA/CPA qualified accounting professional and will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills as your ability to interact and engage cross-functionally within the business will be crucial to your success. Additionally, you will have a strong attention to detail, enjoy being hands-on with the work and have successfully navigated a Payroll Tax Audit process in the past.
