About Future Fund

At the Future Fund, we're for future minds - like yours. The new investors and creators who thrive on different thinking and doing it together. Those who glimpse opportunity before it strikes and step up every day to grab it.

The Future Fund is Australia's Sovereign Wealth Fund, managing over $300 billion across six public asset funds with the same purpose: growing Australia's future. We are a global investor and work closely with world leading investment organisations to access the best investment ideas.

Where others see challenges, we see more interesting investment experiences. Every person, every skillset, every mindset is an asset. We've got every future generation to consider, yet our approach to investing is incredibly pure: we think about it deeply, and daily. Ours is a culture where great people grow the future together, with the rare ability to work collaboratively, think freely, and make a real difference.

The Portfolio Risk team is a first line risk function within the Future Fund's Investment Team. The team focuses on risks associated with the exercise of investment judgement, discretionary decision making related to portfolio exposures, and risks in the portfolios itself.

The Portfolio Risk team covers three main areas:

  • The assessment of investment risks associated with specific transactional/positioning decisions.
  • Investment analysis, with a focus on key assumption review; whole-of-portfolio level interactions and implications.
  • Providing guidance on the governance and functionality of our investment processes and associated controls.

The Director, Portfolio Risk role will report to the Managing Director, Portfolio Risk, and will focus on the third element above. The objective is to consider how our investment teams function to allow for efficient portfolio management activity, within the desired parameters. As a small team, flexibility will be required across all Portfolio Risk functions. Consistent with our Total Portfolio Approach, subject matter expertise will also be called upon for collaboration across the Investment Team, and across the Agency as required.

The role would suit an experienced investment professional with an interest in governance, policies and delegations, with the ability to collaborate with and influence a diverse range of stakeholders at all levels across the Investment Team.

The position is based in Melbourne and is offered on a full-time, ongoing basis. Part time arrangements may be considered.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the role focus on investment governance and risk management. This includes: policy development, balancing efficiency and controls management and integrating risk management into our investment strategy. Building strong relationships within the Investment Team is essential for fostering collaboration and effective risk management.

The role also involves portfolio risk assessment and reporting, including how to evaluate and report risks in a meaningful way. As a leader within the Investment team, you'll foster an inclusive team culture, mentor colleagues, and promote a risk-focused environment that encourages high performance and engagement within the team.

About You

You are a senior investment professional with 13+ years of experience, ideally in a first line investment management function. Exposure to investment governance as part of your role is highly desirable. You should hold a university degree in law, economics, commerce, or finance, complemented by post-graduate studies or professional accreditation in a related field. Legal qualifications will be helpful in this role

You may be a multi-asset class specialist, or as a sector specialist you should possess a strong understanding of portfolio construction and investment strategy.

Your ability to work in partnership with a broad range of senior stakeholders is well demonstrated. Highly organised, you excel in managing time and outputs effectively.

Please note this opportunity is open to Australian citizens only.
