At eSafety, we are pioneers in online safety regulation, leading global efforts to combat digital harms and foster safer, more positive online experiences for all Australians. Our mission is bold and far-reaching. From tackling cyberbullying and child sexual exploitation, to confronting emerging harms brought about by new innovations such as generative AI and immersive technologies, we oversee Australia’s online safety landscape.

We are seeking a high skilled, passionate, self-motivated Senior Research Officer to lead and deliver high-impact, mixed-methods research that informs programs, policy, and regulation to improve online safety.

The position sits within eSafety's Research and Evaluation Team which focuses on supporting, encouraging, conducting and evaluating research about online safety for Australians.

We Do This So

  • our programs, policies and regulatory functions are evidence-informed
  • robust, person-centred evidence on the prevalence and impact of online harms is available to stakeholders
  • the evidence base on what works to prevent and remediate online harms continues to grow.

To be successful in this role you will have exceptional research skills, a proven track record of working on a range of research projects, dealing with diverse stakeholders and authoring high quality, engaging research publications. You'll design and manage research projects, produce engaging publications, and translate findings into practical insights. You will play a critical role in our collaborative, purpose-driven team, leading by example and helping drive research outcomes for eSafety.

Experience working with vulnerable communities and on sensitive topics would be highly regarded.

Mandatory Qualifications And Experience

  • An undergraduate degree (or higher) in social science, psychology, criminology, or a related discipline, where research methods and their application was a key component of the coursework.
  • 5+ years professional experience conducting primary research in an applied setting (i.e. designing and conducting fieldwork - such as surveys, interviews and/or focus groups).
  • Experience integrating diverse mixed-method data sources (e.g. interviews, surveys, administrative data) to strengthen the validity and reliability of findings.
  • A strong interest in pursuing a career in the APS in research.
