Talent Development Program Director
Australian Taxation Office

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Human Resource professional to join our Senior Executive Services (SES) and Leadership branch.
As a Talent Development Program Director within the ATO People business area, you will lead the delivery of the flagship whole-of-government leadership development programs on behalf of the Australian Public Service (APS). Administered by the ATO, these programs are designed to develop senior executive and emerging Executive Level 2 (EL 2) and SES Band 1 talent across the APS — not just within the ATO — and play a key role in strengthening the leadership capability of the public sector.
You will lead a dedicated team of specialists delivering contemporary, high-impact learning solutions that align with whole-of-government reform priorities and the future needs of the APS. This includes managing and evolving the APS-wide SES and EL 2 Talent Development Programs, facilitating strategic connections across agencies, and identifying opportunities for cross-sector learning and collaboration.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the design, delivery and continuous improvement of whole-of-APS leadership development programs, including the SES Band 1 and EL 2 Talent Development Programs.
- Partnering with APS agencies, departments, and external providers to ensure leadership offerings reflect the strategic direction of government and emerging public sector priorities.
- Connecting senior executives and emerging leaders with impactful learning experiences that foster cross-agency collaboration, mobility and innovation.
- Ensuring programs are aligned with APS-wide leadership frameworks, the ATO’s leadership strategy, and broader workforce transformation agendas.
This is a high-impact role with reach beyond the ATO. You will contribute to shaping the next generation of APS leaders, supporting a culture of excellence, integrity and collaboration across the public service.
This role may be offered on an ongoing or non-ongoing basis in Brisbane CBD or Canberra. A merit pool may be formed and used to fill future similar vacancies in these locations and other locations within the same metropolitan area.
