Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout the health service. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.

Position Profile: The Senior Medical Practitioner will, as a member of a multidisciplinary team, provide alcohol and other drug services to patients of Next Step Services. Next Step Services includes outpatient services, integrated Community Alcohol and Drug Services, the Inpatient Withdrawal Unit, outpatient and medical support to young people through integrated Drug and Alcohol Youth Services, and the Community Program for Opioid Pharmacotherapy.

The Senior Medical Practitioner is responsible for the provision of best practice, evidence-based work in collaboration with members of the Next Step Services team.

Provides leadership, orientation, training, supervision, and education, where relevant, for doctors in training, Health Service Medical Practitioners, and other health workers.

In collaboration with the Next Step Services medical team works to achieve national, state and EMHS performance standards and targets.

Next Step Next Step is the leading government drug and alcohol treatment service in Western Australia providing a range of clinical services.

  • The treatment services provided by Next Step include:
  • Outpatient services at East Perth and via integrated Community Alcohol and Drug Services at six metropolitan locations.
  • The Inpatient Withdrawal Unit at East Perth.
  • An onsite pharmacy service based at East Perth.
  • Outpatient and inpatient youth services via the Integrated Drug and Alcohol Youth Service.
