Position Information

J. J. Cahill Memorial High School is an inclusive, comprehensive high school providing meaningful learning opportunities for all. Located in Mascot, a fast-growing residential area, the school caters to the needs of students with a wide range of academic abilities, and from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Current enrolments are approximately 300, including 24 students who are Aboriginal, or Torres Strait Islander and 69 students identified as EAL/D. The school’s support unit caters for students with mild and moderate intellectual disabilities as well as students with an autism diagnosis.The school offers small class sizes allowing for more personalised learning and targeted support to meet individual learning needs.

J. J. Cahill Memorial High School has a strong focus on community and works closely with families to support the learning and wellbeing needs of all students. Our teaching and learning programs are underpinned by evidence-based practices with a strategic focus on improving literacy, numeracy and overall student outcomes. JJCMHS provides an environment that promotes engagement in learning, challenging students to strive for success. The school takes great pride in delivering a variety of academic, sporting, cultural and vocational opportunities as well as ever-growing creative and performing arts programs available to all students. The school takes a trauma-informed strengths-based approach that encourages students to authentically participate in their own learning, developing prosocial behaviours and responsible attitudes towards school and the wider community.


Selection Criteria

Approval to teach PDHPE and SLR, with demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively within a diverse faculty to develop and lead the implementation of high-quality teaching and learning programs which are responsive to individual student needs Demonstrated ability to use effective classroom management skills and wellbeing practices to create a learning environment that is engaging, inclusive and promotes a culture of high expectations Exceptional communication and organisational skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively with students, staff, parents, and the community to enhance student learning and wellbeing, while also contributing to whole-school sporting and educational initiatives Demonstrated knowledge and/or ability in utilising evidence-based teaching strategies to enhance student learning in PDHPE and Health and Movement Science


Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity
