The Role

The position will be accountable for developing, maintaining, modifying, and improving the metallurgical strategies for the Mt Holland Concentrator, while striving for zero harm for employees, contractors, and the environment.

The Senior Metallurgist will align business and operational strategies, with the aim of maximising throughput and spodumene recovery whilst striving to optimise operating costs of process plant operation, against a range of KPI’s.

This is a Permanent Full-Time position on an 8:6 FIFO roster ex Perth to our Mt Holland site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing and maintaining a safe work environment, implement and deliver compliance with SHE&C plans, management systems and processes within the processing plant, including supporting operation such as maintenance and laboratory.
  • Active participation in the establishment of a health and safety culture.
  • Comply with all health and safety, environmental and regulatory policies relating to the project and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ensure all health, safety and environmental incidents are reported promptly
  • Developing operating methods and procedures related to operational, metallurgical and process engineering tasks.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting to the operations team to achieve production targets.
  • Assisting in the operation and management of the metallurgical laboratory for test work and projects for continuous improvement and plant optimisation
  • Resolving medium to long term metallurgical issues associated with the operating plant, identifying and implementing continuous improvement projects
  • Setting, monitoring and reporting on short term metallurgical parameters and control strategies, including setting addition rates, and controlling and monitoring usage of all concentrator reagent consumables
  • Assist in the metallurgical accounting and reconciliation process from the crusher feed to trucked final concentrate
  • Reviewing and improving standards and safe operating procedures for all metallurgical tasks (both metallurgical lab and field works)
  • Interacting closely with Covalent Process Technology & Innovation team to develop a consistent approach with respect to continuous improvement and ensure information flow between all sites is well maintained
  • Drive value creation across the maintenance department by implementing continuous improvement in line with operational excellence
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret engineering drawings (P&IDs, PFD)

Role Requirements

  • Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering and/or equivalent qualification
  • Valid driver’s license
  • First Aid certificate
  • WA Radiation Safety qualifications desired but not essential
  • 3+ years in fixed plant processing
  • Experience in hard rock lithium processing desired but not essential
  • Technical knowledge and experience in lab management processes, including lab sample management systems
  • Sound technical knowledge of crushing, Dense Medium Separation, milling, and flotation circuits
  • Proven experience in commissioning and delivering operational improvement projects
  • Demonstrated track record of problem solving and solution implementation in a multi-discipline team-based environment
  • Experience in process trending and simulation software
  • Exceptional report writing skills
  • Ability to work in remote and/or arid environmental conditions
