Position Information
Fairvale High School is located in Fairfield West and has an enrolment of 1320 students (co-educational and comprehensive), including 94% of students from language backgrounds other than English. The school is multicultural with the predominant cultural groups being Vietnamese, Arabic and Assyrian. There are 318 (24%) students who are identified as coming from a refugee background and twenty nine (2%) students of Aboriginal background, with a total of 81 (6%) students in the Special Education Unit. The school has seven Special Education classes consisting of three Autism, three Mild Intellectual Disabilities and one Moderate Intellectual disability.
There are 150 teaching and non-teaching staff members including four Deputy Principals. Professional learning for all staff is carried out via School Development days; Beginning Teacher Induction program; and differentiated professional learning in line with the school's strategic directions. The school has a FOEI of 164 and receives equity funding to support students from Low Socio-Economic backgrounds. This funding provides human, physical and economic resources to support and strengthen student learning, community participation and wellbeing. Additional human resources include: School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs), Community Liaison Officers (CLOs), Student Support Officer (SSO), a Speech Pathologist and an Occupational Therapist.
Fairvale High School is a high performing and high demand school with a strong learning culture and high expectations of students. The school community is highly aspirational and upon completing school, 60% of Year 12 students access university and 40% transition to TAFE, private colleges and/or full-time work. Fairvale High offers a broad curriculum including five VET pathways, designated EAL/D classes, timetabled Literacy and Learning Support classes.
Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach Secondary library or currently undertaking or currently enrolled in Teacher Librarian qualifications approved by the NSW Department of Education.
- Capacity to implement a creative, flexible and innovative approach to managing a library that functions as a learning hub to support literacy learning, technology use, HPGE, critical thinking and the diverse needs of all students from Years 7-12.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including effective communication and a demonstrated ability to work flexibly and collaboratively with teachers, students and community members.
- Knowledge, and effective implementation, of positive behaviour management strategies to ensure safe, inclusive learning environments are established and maintained, where all students feel valued and respected.
Conditions

This is a permanent part time position for 2 days per week 0.4FTE (Full-time equivalent)
If applicable engagement will be temporary until successful completion of the Teacher Librarian qualifications as recognised by the NSW Department of Education which must be completed within 24 months.
