Systems Designer – RF & Test Engineering I TSPV (Top Secret Positive Vetting) I Canberra

We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Designer with expertise in RF engineering and functional testing to support the delivery of complex communications systems, including satellite-based technologies. This TSPV-cleared role is based in Canberra and requires hands-on experience across system design, RF integration, diagnostics, and structured testing activities.

Key Responsibilities

System Design (DESN 4):

  • Design system components using formal modelling techniques aligned with agreed architectures, standards, and methodologies.
  • Evaluate alternative design options, document trade-offs, and address stakeholder-specific views.
  • Prototype or simulate designs to validate functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Develop detailed design specifications for system construction and review designs against requirements.

Radio Frequency Engineering (RFEN 4):

  • Diagnose and resolve system-wide RF issues using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
  • Configure RF systems to maintain performance during outages or transitional conditions.
  • Select and integrate RF components into broader system environments.
  • Define internal RF protocols and optimise system configurations for peak performance.

Functional Testing (TEST 3):

  • Design functional and exploratory test cases, including edge and boundary conditions.
  • Participate in design reviews and update test plans based on technical insights.
  • Prepare test environments and automate repeatable tests for reliability.
  • Log and analyse test outcomes to confirm functionality and ensure quality delivery.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working in satellite communication environments
  • Possession of an Electrical Trade Certificate
  • Practical application of ARPANSA RF Safety Standards
  • Experience with RF over IP (RFoIP) technologies

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will bring a strong mix of design acumen, RF technical expertise, and practical testing skills. A solid understanding of secure communications systems, combined with the ability to operate within high-assurance environments, is essential. TSPV clearance is mandatory.
