Commercial Superintendent role at a major coal mining operation in the Bowen Basin. Lead management reporting, financial controls, capital oversight and budgeting for a high-performing site. Mentor a small team, support leadership decision-making, and step into the Commercial Manager seat when required. Flexible work structure including FIFO, DIDO or Moranbah residential options on a 9 day fortnight. Tangible career progression to become Commercial Manager in future.

The Opportunity

This role sits at the centre of site finance and commercial operations within a high-quality coal producer in the Bowen Basin. Reporting directly to the Commercial Manager, you'll lead capital planning, forecasting, management reporting and commercial oversight for a technically complex operation supplying global markets.

With responsibility across SOX controls, financial evaluations and internal reporting, this is a chance to embed commercial discipline into the site’s strategic direction. The role also oversees a small, capable team, providing leadership and mentorship while driving process improvement and cost awareness.

This is a site-based opportunity offering flexibility in how you live and work – FIFO (Brisbane), DIDO or residential (near Moranbah). Accommodation is provided and residential employees may access salary packaging for housing.

The Leadership & Culture

You’ll work under an experienced Commercial Manager with a pragmatic leadership style and clear commercial expectations. The broader culture is values-led, safety-first and built around tenure, mutual respect, and clear communication.

The successful person will be seen as a commercial business partner, someone who’s respected across site, communicates clearly, and doesn’t shy away from owning results.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead all site-level financial reporting, including month-end and quarter-end processes
  • Prepare and analyse budgets, rolling forecasts, and variance commentary
  • Maintain the integrity of general ledger entries, fixed asset registers and capital expenditure tracking
  • Ensure SOX compliance and internal controls across financial and operational processes
  • Contribute to five-year strategic planning and assist with presentations to senior leadership
  • Identify and support value-adding commercial projects with a focus on cost discipline and return on capital
  • Conduct financial modelling and prepare evaluations to support operational and capital investment decisions
  • Act as the site lead for SAP and internal performance systems, ensuring data accuracy and reporting integrity
  • Provide hands-on leadership and mentoring to a small site-based commercial team (1 direct report)
  • Support cross-functional collaboration with village operations, procurement, maintenance and leadership teams
  • Step into the Commercial Manager’s seat when required to ensure seamless continuity of commercial oversight

Who You Are

  • CA/CPA qualified with a bachelor’s in accounting, commerce or related field
  • 5+ years post-qualification experience, ideally within mining, energy, or asset-heavy environments
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, forecasts, and drive accountability
  • Experience supervising others and leading by example
  • Personable, solutions-focused and commercially astute
  • SAP experience highly regarded
