We are currently seeking to appoint a Senior Corporate Accountant within our corporate office located in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane. This role will report directly to the Senior Manager Corporate Accountant and will support accounting of the corporate and exploration joint venture components of the Peabody business, including the accurate and timely recording of business transactions as well as associated reconciliations.

Duties will include:

  • Ensure compliance with all Peabody safety policies and practices
  • Accountable for the financial integrity of the general ledgers and accounting records for various corporate entities and exploration joint ventures within the Peabody Australia Group ensuring full compliance with US GAAP and IFRS accounting standards.
  • Preparation of journal entries.
  • Preparation of the monthly financial / management accounting, reporting and reconciliation process for relevant entities and ensure adherence to the Financial Accounting team month end deadlines.
  • Assistance with monthly JV reporting and cash call requirements, quarterly US GAAP reporting, invoicing including intercompany and external invoice preparation and issuance
  • Other work includes corporate accruals, LSL calculations, intercompany management fee and payroll allocation process, FX translations and equity accounting for minority interests.
  • Provide support to the Senior Manager Corporate Accounting and other members of the Financial Accounting team as required.
  • Work with internal and external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with all SOX controls and internal controls for area of responsibility.
  • Investigate opportunities for continuous improvement within the Corporate Accounting team.
  • Regular communication with other departments within the Brisbane and US offices.
  • May be required to attend occasional site visits to develop a general understanding of the operations and ensure appropriate accounting principles are applied.
  • Proactively manage own development including ensuring technical training requirements are maintained and up-to-date.

About you:

  • 5 - 10 years of relevant work experience in a professional services firm or commercial accounting roles
  • Professional service firm experience desirable
  • Understanding of USGAAP and Australian accounting standards and guidelines including understanding of or experience with derivative financial instruments
  • SEC, ASX or similar public reporting experience preferrable, not essential
  • Experience in operating in a multi foreign exchange environment highly desirable
  • Proficiency with SAP accounting software
  • Experience with Blackline reconciliation software highly desirable
  • Strong excel skills advantageous
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • High level of interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive working relationships across functions and locations
  • Ability to manage internal and external relationships through effective verbal and written communication
  • Ability to question the status quo and engage in process improvement
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills to quickly and effectively resolve issues
