We're recruiting for a specialist opportunity within a Queensland Government digital team that's reshaping service delivery across the state. This contract position sits within a multi-disciplinary division responsible for building, scaling, and maintaining API platforms that support cross-agency integration, enabling smarter, more connected digital services for Queenslanders.

Your New Role

You'll take the lead on the delivery and ongoing enhancement of a newly established Graph API (GAPI) platform - the central integration gateway enabling secure, consistent, and high-performance APIs across multiple backend systems and service providers.

Working alongside a Product Manager and a talented group of engineers, you'll contribute to a federated microservices ecosystem built for scale, reliability, and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead development on a high-visibility, whole-of-government GraphQL integration platform.
  • Deliver scalable Node.js microservices using TypeScript, REST, and GraphQL.
  • Drive API gateway design, lifecycle governance, and secure data interoperability.
  • Build and support automation pipelines using GitHub, CI/CD, and DevSecOps practices.
  • Provide technical oversight in a federated architecture involving multiple teams.
  • Deliver in a highly collaborative agile team focused on continuous product improvement.
  • Participate in after-hours support/on-call work during key project phases.

What You Bring

  • Expertise in Node.js, GraphQL (Apollo Server & Federation), and TypeScript.
  • Experience unifying APIs across disparate systems in high-security environments.
  • Knowledge of API gateway governance, OIDC/OAuth2, and ABAC security policies.
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures, serverless/cloud-native environments (AWS).
  • Test automation and JavaScript unit/integration testing experience.
  • Comfort operating in agile and DevSecOps environments using JIRA, Confluence, and GitHub.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience supporting platforms with high availability/reliability requirements.
  • Prior experience delivering public-facing digital government services or working with federated teams.
