We're recruiting for a specialist opportunity within a Queensland Government digital team that's reshaping service delivery across the state. This contract position sits within a multi-disciplinary division responsible for building, scaling, and maintaining API platforms that support cross-agency integration, enabling smarter, more connected digital services for Queenslanders.
Your New Role
You'll take the lead on the delivery and ongoing enhancement of a newly established Graph API (GAPI) platform - the central integration gateway enabling secure, consistent, and high-performance APIs across multiple backend systems and service providers.
Working alongside a Product Manager and a talented group of engineers, you'll contribute to a federated microservices ecosystem built for scale, reliability, and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead development on a high-visibility, whole-of-government GraphQL integration platform.
- Deliver scalable Node.js microservices using TypeScript, REST, and GraphQL.
- Drive API gateway design, lifecycle governance, and secure data interoperability.
- Build and support automation pipelines using GitHub, CI/CD, and DevSecOps practices.
- Provide technical oversight in a federated architecture involving multiple teams.
- Deliver in a highly collaborative agile team focused on continuous product improvement.
- Participate in after-hours support/on-call work during key project phases.
- Expertise in Node.js, GraphQL (Apollo Server & Federation), and TypeScript.
- Experience unifying APIs across disparate systems in high-security environments.
- Knowledge of API gateway governance, OIDC/OAuth2, and ABAC security policies.
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures, serverless/cloud-native environments (AWS).
- Test automation and JavaScript unit/integration testing experience.
- Comfort operating in agile and DevSecOps environments using JIRA, Confluence, and GitHub.
- Experience supporting platforms with high availability/reliability requirements.
- Prior experience delivering public-facing digital government services or working with federated teams.
