The Role:
We are looking for a seasoned Security Manager to lead and oversee security and safety operations across Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (SMCT) sites. In this newly created, 12 month role, you will play a key part in ensuring a respectful and secure environment that protects people, property and the dignity of our cemetery grounds.
Reporting to the Executive Manager of Health, Safety and Security, you will implement SMCT's hybrid security model, balancing internal security oversight with coordination of outsourced providers for after-hours monitoring and incident response. This role is hands-on and strategic, requiring an experienced professional who can manage risk, guide people and respond effectively in times of emergency.
In this role, you will:
- Develop and implement tailored security strategies for each SMCT site under a hybrid model.
- Conduct risk assessments, site inspections and recommend security improvements.
- Manage security technologies such as CCTV, access control systems, duress alarms and alarm response.
- Coordinate and monitor outsourced contracts for after-hours alarm monitoring and incident response.
- Liaise with police, emergency services and security providers to ensure fast, effective collaboration.
- Provide leadership to internal personnel and contractors, aligning performance with SMCT standards.
- Design and deliver security training and induction programs for relevant staff.
- Manage the security budget, reporting monthly on incidents, service outcomes and resource use.
- Ensure compliance with SMCT policies, safety legislation and relevant industry regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of security activity, emergency response, and system access logs.
- Collaborate with the Executive Manager of Enterprise Risk and Assurance to align with emergency frameworks.
- Lead regular testing of emergency and security response protocols.
Your Profile:
You are an experienced security leader who brings strategic thinking and practical know-how to every situation. With a strong understanding of emergency response, risk management and compliance, you're driven to create safe environments and foster a culture of collaboration, vigilance and respect.
- Degree or Diploma in Security Management, Risk Management, or a related field.
- Experience managing security operations across multiple locations.
- Strong knowledge of risk assessments, emergency planning and security technologies.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of relevant state and federal laws, including health and safety requirements.
- Valid Driver's Licence and Working with Children Check.
- Certificate IV in Security Management highly regarded.
- Familiarity with cultural, cemetery, or heritage environments.
- Certifications in access control, CCTV, or related security systems.
- Understanding of the Cemeteries Act and privacy legislation desirable.
- Valid First Aid certification and Private Security Individual Licence.
- Membership in relevant professional security bodies desirable.
