We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Senior Financial Accountant to lead our month-end close process, oversee the integrity of financial reporting, and contribute to forecasting and planning. This role requires strong technical accounting skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work cross-functionally across the business.
The ideal candidate is CPA or CA qualified, has at least 5 years’ post-qualification experience, and ideally comes from a Big 4 or mid-tier audit background with industry exposure. The role also includes managing and developing a junior team member, providing an excellent leadership opportunity in a collaborative finance team.
Senior Financial Accountant, ANZ (based in Brisbane, Australia)
Your responsibilities:
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Review and finalise all journal entries, accruals, and prepayments.
- Oversee the completion of all general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Analyse and review monthly financial results, providing commentary on key variances to budget and forecast.
Forecasting & Analysis
- Maintain and update monthly cash flow forecasts and rolling P&L forecasts.
- Work closely with business stakeholders to gather input and assumptions.
- Support the Head of Finance in scenario modelling, cost tracking, and board reporting packs.
Business Partnering & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a key point of contact for non-finance departments on financial queries and reporting.
- Build strong relationships with operational and commercial teams to support planning and reporting accuracy.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor a Finance Officer.
- Review their work and provide coaching and development support.
Compliance & Audit
- Support the preparation of statutory accounts and liaise with external auditors as required.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards (AASB/IFRS) and internal policies.
Your ideal Profile:
- CA or CPA qualified
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a financial accounting or audit role gained from retail industry, preferred
- Big 4 or mid-tier public practice background strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, reconciliations, and cash flow forecasting is desirable but not essential.
- Excellent Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Leadership abilities to manage and develop other team members is desirable but not essential.
